Tuchel praises Mount trait others ‘cannot learn’; sets goalscoring challenge

Thomas Tuchel, Mason Mount Chelsea TEAMtalk

Thomas Tuchel has given further praise to in form midfielder Mason Mount, claiming he has talents that others cannot be taught.

Mount has quickly turned into one of the most important players in Tuchel’s Chelsea system. He’s played in 14 of the 16 games the German has been in charge for, scoring five goals. That includes the opener in Wednesday night’s Champions League quarter-final first leg win over Porto.

His form also earnt him starts in all three of England’s internationals last month. He produced the goods for the Three Lions too, setting a goal up against San Marino and netting himself in the win over Albania.

On the back of that run, his manager has now praised his natural attacking ability. Tuchel even joked that he will start to be recognised as a forward if he continues to score as frequently as he is right now.

Speaking to Sky Sports (via the Metro) he said: “20 [goals a season] would be huge! Then I would maybe not call him a midfielder anymore, but a striker,

“But he has that potential which you cannot learn. You have the composure, you have the technique, you have the precision, you have the feeling to score the goals or you don’t have it.”

Mount is currently on eight goals for the year in call competitions. He will have the chance to increase that tally when Chelsea meet Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.

Tuchel sets Mount yearly goal target

One more goal will see Mount surpass the amount of goals he scored last year. Two more would see him hit double figures for the first time for Chelsea, although he has already achieved that in loan spells with Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County.

Mason Mount TEAMtalk

It’s an impressively consistent return for an attacking midfielder, but Tuchel still wants him to aim for better.

“I think he can be the type of guy who can produce double figures in every season,” he added.

“He’s just in the middle of it right now and I don’t want him to stop now. It’s crucial.”
