Tuchel reveals worry over Silva injury after Chelsea dominate Spurs

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has given his assessment on the injury Thiago Silva picked up in Thursday evening’s win over Tottenham.

His side produced a dominant performance that limited Spurs to very few chances as they ran out easy 1-0 winners.

Chelsea are yet to concede under Tuchel’s reign, having picked up seven points in his first three games as Blues boss.

However, one concern he does have is the situation with Silva. The veteran defender limped off in the first-half after falling awkwardly.

The Brazilian seemed to be holding his thigh as he exited the pitch. Speaking to BBC Sport, Tuchel commented on the incident.

He said: “I saw Thiago with a big strap around his muscle but we have to wait. It’s worrying because it’s a muscle injury.”

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel says he will give 'every chance' to the club's academy players to break into the first-team.

Despite this, the German said he was pleased with how his side performed throughout the match, especially in the defensive third.

“We are super happy about the result,” he added. “It was a tough game against a strong opponent but we did very well and controlled the game well.

“It was a good first half. In the second half we lost more of the possession and the distances in the passing were too long.

“If you play against a quality team you have to accept there are moments you have to suffer. We defended very actively and brave.

“We were looking for a second goal desperately as that would have killed the game.

“I’m happy with the spirit and the attitude in defending. A very solid team performance and a deserved win.”

Tuchel lauded over the mentality of his team, indicating he has settled in quite quickly already.

He added: “It’s not about my methods. I’m happy with the attitude, the squad, the potential. They are fine guys, it’s a nice group and they are open.

“It’s a pleasure to be around them. We have a lot of support in the whole club. It was a quick start but an easy one because I feel very welcome.”

Jorginho TEAMtalk

Chelsea’s manoeuvrability around the press helped them quell any Tottenham danger from the outset.

A poor Eric Dier tackle on Timo Werner allowed Jorginho to fire home his fifth Chelsea penalty of the season.

The visitors barely allowed their opponents out of their own half throughout the 90 minutes.

The game became slightly more open towards the end but Chelsea held firm to move up to 6th in the table.
