Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel says that the fact that neither he nor Mason Mount are aware of the midfielder’s potential proves a sign of dangerous things to come.

Mount broke through to the Blues‘ first team in style last season after following Frank Lampard from Derby.

As such, the pair’s earlier working relationship meant that the 22-year-old became one of Lampard’s key players.

But doubts immediately emerged about whether his upward trajectory would continue at Chelsea after Tuchel’s arrival. The German manager put him on the bench for his first game in charge, leaving one pundit feeling concerned.

However, Tuchel has addressed his own feelings for the England international’s future at Stamford Bridge. Indeed, he noted that the player is not yet aware of the level he can reach.

“He cares a lot about Chelsea, he cares a lot about his teammates, he is leaving his heart on the pitch,” the manager told a press conference (via football.london).

“If you train with Mason, he gives 100 per cent every minute and this is the best level to grow. It’s the best situation to start and the best situation to become a top, top player.

“He has everything needed to reach higher and higher levels. I don’t know where his limits are but right now we will push him and support him.

“What makes me very happy is he is a nice guy, an open guy. He has a positive aura and energy in the dressing room and it’s a real pleasure to work with the whole team and Mason.”

Mount played 80 minutes in the 2-0 win over Burnley on Sunday.

However, striker Timo Werner is one player who has entered the limelight for criticism in recent weeks. The Germany international has yet to score under Tuchel, but his barren Premier League run goes back to November 7.

Tuchel addresses Werner form

His manager said of the 24-year-old: “With every player, and all strikers, we try to create a bond and a relationship.

“Every guy is different, need something different. Some need you close, others like to be alone. So we find out what suits him to feel comfortable and to open up.

“We want him to feel comfortable on the pitch and it’s our responsibility to create moments for him.”

Tuchel was speaking ahead of Thursday’s huge clash with Tottenham. As such, he had a message for Spurs counterpart Jose Mourinho.
