Turkish club gears up to swoop for Leicester man struggling under Rodgers
Turkish side Trabzonspor have contacted Leicester regarding the availability of the on-loan Leicester winger Cengiz Under according to reports.
The Turkey international has undergone somewhat of a turbulent tenure in Brendan Rodgers’ side thus far, registering no goals and two assists in nine Premier League appearances since joining on a 12-month loan from Roma. According to Turkish source Karadeniz’de Sonnokta (via Sport Witness) it is believed that as a result of Under’s uninspired form, Leicester are unwilling to trigger the €23million purchase clause offered to them by the Serie A outfit.
The source adds that Trabzonspor manager Abdullah Avci is a big fan of the winger.
Indeed, he has added him to list of targets for the upcoming transfer window as he continues to monitor his availability.
With the 23-year-old likely to return to the Italian capital, it is believed that Roma are also unwilling to keep the winger and are keen to send him back out on another loan spell.
Trabzonspor are keen on offering Under a lifeline and more playing opportunities by bringing him back to Turkey this summer.
Avci is believed to have been granted full ‘authority’ by his club to move for the attacker.
Furthermore, he has already approached the Leicester loanee’s representatives about his current situation as he continues in his pursuit.
April 21 Transfer Chatter: Bellerin set for PSG
Hector Bellerin is edging towards a summer move to Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal fancy signing Samuele Ricci and Tottenham have reportedly made an approach for Maurizio Sarri.
No official moves between the Turkish side and Under’s loan and parent clubs have so far been made.
However, Karadeniz’de Sonnokta report that they will make a formal offer to take the player on loan next season, should the player himself be interested.
Under has failed to impress Rodgers
Despite having once been on the radars of both Manchester United and Arsenal, his potential has failed to materialise in the East Midlands, with Brendan Rodgers reportedly being unimpressed by the winger’s overall performances, according to Eurosport.
Although initially brought in to strengthen Leicester’s array of attacking options, it appears as if his time at the King Power should soon be over, having rarely featured in the Premier League.
In fact, he has received more frequent game time in Leicester’s short-lived Europa League campaign.
As reported in February, Rodgers may have already lined up a replacement for Under in the form of ex-Newcastle winger, Florian Thauvin who plies his trade for Marseille in Ligue 1.
