Turner: Spireites won’t sell

The Spireites have had interest in a handful of their players this summer and this week speculation surrounding the futures of Sam Clucas and Tendayi Darikwa returned.

Gary Roberts and Jimmy Ryan have departed the Proact Stadium during the close season but Turner insists no one else will leave – unless there is an offer that is too good to turn down.

“Dean has been very impressed with the squad he has inherited from Paul Cook. He wants to keep the squad together and make it even stronger,” Turner told the club’s official website.

“Dean has assessed the squad in pre-season and he will identify areas he feels need to be strengthened.

“We are not looking to sell any of our players, as illustrated by the fact that we have turned down offers for three players over the summer. If we were actively looking to sell players, we would have accepted the bids we have received. We would only sell a player if we received an offer which was impossible to refuse.”

Turner believes that interest in Chesterfield’s players is a measure of how the club has progressed in recent years.

He said: “It is flattering that there is interest in our players from clubs in higher divisions and that is largely down to good recruitment.

“We want players who have the ambition to play at a higher level and hopefully they will be able to achieve their goal with Chesterfield.”
