Two factors convince Man Utd to weigh up swoop for ex-Burnley midfielder

Jeff Hendrick, Jay Rodriguez, Ashley Westwood Burnley

Former Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick is on Manchester United’s list of options in their hunt for a new signing, according to a report.

Hendrick left the Clarets on June 30 after refusing to extend his contract at Turf Moor.

As such, he is a free agent and Football Insider claims there will be a “Europe-wide” race for his signature.

United are among those keen, with the Red Devils reportedly monitoring Hendrick’s situation ahead of a potential swoop.

Nevertheless, they hold a concrete interest and admire Hendrick’s ability to play in several positions.

The Republic of Ireland international played across the midfield, including on the right, for Burnley this season.

In doing so, Hendrick proved effective in both defence and attack for Sean Dyche’s side.

What’s more, United feel they should consider a move given he is a free agent.

Also among the chasing pack are Newcastle, AC Milan and Inter Milan.

Speculation over Burnley‘s squad arose in June when they failed to field nine substitutions against Manchester City.

Later that month, Dyche confirmed that Hendrick was one of four who would leave on June 30.

Dyche said: “Yes, he [Hendrick] will be leaving. As will Joe Hart, Aaron Lennon, Adam Legzdins.

“I have spoke to [Lennon] at length of the respect I have for him and what they have done for the club. It’s the same with Jeff.

“I have nothing but utmost respect for how hard they have worked for the club. [The contract offer] wasn’t up to what Jeff and his advisers thought was appropriate.”

MAN UTD READY TO OFFLOAD SIX PLAYERS

Elsewhere, a report claims United will listen to offers for six first-team players this summer.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly has ambitious plans to sign a winger and a defender. However, to do so, he accepts he may have to raise funds in a coronavirus-affected transfer market.

As such, six players – including Alexis Sanchez – could all go before the start of next season.
