Manchester United are once again being linked with a £48million bid to sign PSG striker Edinson Cavani, despite uncertainty over the Red Devils’ transfer policy this month.

United have repeatedly been linked with the Paris Saint-Germain striker, with the latest reports in the French press suggesting an approach had been made about bringing the Uruguayan hitman to Old Trafford this month.

However, despite Louis van Gaal’s need to add more firepower at Old Trafford, reports on Friday suggested United were planning a transfer freeze at Old Trafford this month amid doubts over the Dutchman’s long-term future in the job.

Nonetheless, United could act now if it emerged that PSG were willing to discuss a deal for Cavani. The club are currently fifth in the Premier League table going into the weekend’s games and the feeling is they can secure a Champions League place should they add more goals to their game.

Cavani turns 29 next month, however, and it would likely involve a huge financial package to bring him to Old Trafford.
