United rename Ennis-Hill stand

United’s away stand was named in honour of Ennis-Hill following her victory in the heptathlon at the London Olympics in 2012.

However, the League One club have now struck a three-year sponsorship deal with local estate agent Redbrik which includes the renaming of the stand.

“It was a real honour to have had the Bramall Lane stand named after me in 2012 in recognition of my Olympic achievements,” Ennis-Hill told United’s website.

“However, I completely understand the need for Sheffield United to recognise the valuable contributions of its sponsors and want to wish the club and the team all the best for the forthcoming season.”

Last November Ennis Hill said she would want her name to be removed if the club re-signed convicted rapist Ched Evans following his release from prison.

However, United reconsidered their plans following a furious backlash and Evans has since failed to restart his career.

United did not mention the row after announcing their decision to rename the stand and said it planned to continue their association with local heroine Ennis-Hill.

“We have started discussions with Jess and her team as to how she continues to be recognised by the club going forward befitting of her achievements and our hopes for her in Rio 2016.”
