Manchester United will spend a world-record fee to bring Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann to Old Trafford this summer, according to reports.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to the Red Devils over the past couple of years with his friend Paul Pogba joining Jose Mourinho’s side in the summer for £89million.

Griezmann has been quoted as saying it would “awesome” to play alongside Pogba at club level as well as having some complimentary words for United.

And the Independent claims that Mourinho’s men are willing to spend up to £100million in the summer transfer window to finally secure a deal for their top target.

It is understood that Atletico have given up hope of holding onto their star man and will try to re-sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

Costa scored 64 goals in 135 matches in all competitions for the La Liga side and the striker has recently the subject of interest in him from China, while Tuesday’s Paper Talk suggests another La Liga side are also in for him.

Griezmann recently reacted angrily to reporters questions over his future by showing his displeasure at the timing of the grilling.

“Don’t hit me with these questions about my future because for players like Cristiano [Ronaldo], [Leo] Messi or [Gareth] Bale nobody asks them what is going to happen next year or where they are going to play,” said Griezmann.

“I’m happy and enjoying myself at Atletico, don’t ask me about my future anymore.”
