Vale end Shrimps’~cup dreams

The Valiants secured revenge for a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy exit at Christie Park earlier in the season with two early goals to shock Sammy McIlroy’s side.

Vale skipper George Pilkington headed the visitors into the lead after just four minutes and Callum Willock added a second on 22 minutes after a long through ball caused the Morecambe defence all sorts of problems.

The Shrimps hit back with Anyon making superb saves from Wayne Curtis’ looping header and Craig Stanley’s well struck volley.

Carl Baker hit the crossbar with a fine effort in the second half for the home side who despite controlling the possession failed to find their way past Anyon.
