A member of Velez Sarsfield’s board has revealed that he is ready to enter “serious” discussions to sell Manchester United-linked attacker Thiago Almada.
United have reportedly identified the 19-year-old as an alternative to top summer target Jadon Sancho, who could prove too expensive.
Indeed, further reports claim that United have begun talks to sign the Argentine, whose contract contains a £20million exit clause.
ESPN in Argentina have quoted a Sarsfield board member, who has reportedly said Almada is likely to leave the club.
“There is no way to hold him back,” the board member said.
“To all the offers that are seen in the media, add one from the local market and two from Italy.
“We are going to wait for the market to open so that we know what is real and who is asking, and we will be as serious at the negotiating table as we have been since this administration began.”
Argentina Under-20 international Almada, who has seven caps, can play as an attacking midfielder or a winger.
The player has scored five goals and assisted two others in 25 appearances this term.
United scouts have followed the player closely and believe he can impress in the Premier League.
Reports say Arsenal are also keen on Almada, whose release clause will rise to €25m (£21.8m) from the end of August.
CHIESA AMONG MAN UTD’S SANCHO ALTERNATIVES?
Also reportedly among United‘s alternatives for Jadon Sancho is Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa.
Reports earlier this year claimed United sent their top target to watch the 22-year-old.
The Italy international was reportedly the subject of a bid that was close to Fiorentina’s valuation of the player.
However, a former Fiorentina star has urged Chiesa to ignore the Old Trafford rumours.
