Versatile Arsenal World Cup target completes La Liga transfer

Reported Arsenal target Miguel Layun has agreed a deal to sign for Villarreal from Porto, the Spanish club have confirmed.

AS recently suggested that Arsenal were interested in the versatile wideman, but the 30-year-old, who was on loan with Sevilla last season, was looking to stay in Spain.

Layun, who started three of Mexico’s four World Cup games, is due to arrive at Villarreal in the next few days to start pre-season training.

“[I’m] happy with this new adventure in my career with Villarreal,” said Layun in a video message. “I’m thankful for the trust, I hope to see you soon and hopefully we’ll enjoy our time together.”

Sevilla had an option to buy Layun for €6m, but turned down the offer and the player has instead moved to their La Liga rivals.

The former Granada and Watford man can play at left-back, or right-back, and in midfield, or even on the wing as he did for El Tri in Russia.
