Ross McCormack: Heading for Villa

Fulham have accepted a bid, believed to be around £12million from Championship rivals Aston Villa for striker Ross McCormack.

Last night Villa have reportedly launched a £12million bid for prolific hitman McCormack, who has also interested rivals Norwich City.

McCormack has attracted attention from the relegated club – now bankrolled by Chinese owner Tony Xia and managed by Roberto Di Matteo – with his 21-goal haul for Fulham last season in the Championship.

Villa are hoping to make an immediate return to the Premier League and signing the 29-year-old Scotland international would represent a big piece of the jigsaw, should the deal be completed.

McCormack is now free to discuss personal terms with Villa after Fulham confirmed the news via their official website on Wednesday morning.

“The club can confirm that a bid has been accepted from Aston Villa for Ross McCormack. Further details will be announced in due course,” said a statement on

McCormack scored 17 times in the Championship in his first season with Fulham having been Leeds’ top scorer in the 2013-14 campaign with 28 goals before an £11million switch to Craven Cottage.

The Glaswegian, who made his name in Scotland with Motherwell before joining Cardiff in 2008, has already attracted interest from Norwich, who like Villa dropped out of the Premier League in May.

Di Matteo has already brought goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, defender Tommy Elphick and midfielder Aaron Tshibola to Villa Park but is yet to sign a striker.
