Vincent Kompany to raid former club Man City to bring in Burnley summer transfer coup
Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is reportedly plotting a raid on his former club Manchester City for goalkeeper sensation James Trafford.
The Clarets chief, fresh from guiding his side back to the Premier League, is already plotting his summer moves to bolster a Burnley side who have excelled in the Championship this season.
And it appears that he wants a new stopper on board in the form of City youngster Trafford.
The 20-year-old has been outstanding on loan at League One Bolton this season, making 51 appearances across all competitions for the Trotters this term.
During that time he has kept an impressive 26 clean sheets and only conceded 37 goals for a stingy Bolton backline.
Trafford also helped Bolton claim EFL Trophy glory this season, while Ian Evatt’s are currently embroiled in the League One play-offs.
Indeed, the loanee was impressive again as he pulled off some smart stops in the 1-1 draw with Barnsley in the semi-final first leg over the weekend.
And it appears that Kompany, who is aware of the player from his time at The Etihad, has been keeping a close eye on Trafford – as reported by Football Insider.
Trafford set for another loan stint
The young stopper is expected to be loaned out again next season, given City’s current options of Ederson and Stefan Ortega.
But whether or not Kompany believes Trafford has the ability to jump from League One to the Premier League remains to be seen.
The current Clarets No.1 Arijanet Muric was also brought to the club from The Etihad after several loan spells of varying success.
The Kosovo international kept 19 clean sheets across 41 Championship appearances in the 2022-23 campaign.
Former Leeds stopper Bailey Peacock-Farrell is also on the books at Turf Moor and featured in Burnley’s cup matches this term.
