Angel Gomes saw a deadline-day loan move away from Old Trafford blocked by Manchester United, according to a report.
The Manchester Evening News report that Gomes was angling for a loan move and his representatives had lined up a move to another top-flight side.
United though blocked the prospective deal to a Premier League rival, despite Gomes being out of contract in the summer and likely to leave on a free transfer.
The 19-year-old was also in action for the Under-23’s until 9pm in Norwich on deadline day, which further complicated any potential deal.
Gomes has already rejected an offer to extend his contract at the club and he is free to talk to foreign clubs over a pre-contract agreement.
The newspaper claimed that Juventus were keen on Chong, while Barcelona had registered initial interest in bringing Gomes to the Camp Nou.
Gomes has been at United since he was six years old, but his chances have been limited to just eight appearances in the first team this season.
Speaking about Chong and Gomes in comparison with Mason Greenwood, Owen admitted that the prospect of the former two making the cut at the club is “a big question”.
[Greenwood]’s a proper player, a serious player that could be a Manchester United star for years to come,” the pundit told BT Sport.
“With all due respect, there’s other players there that have played tonight like Chong, Gomes, players like that that are going to have lovely careers but are they going to be Manchester United players?
