Victor Wanyama: Requested to leave Southampton in the summer

Victor Wanyama says he has “forgotten” about his request to leave Southampton in the summer and is now looking ahead to the future with Saints.

Midfielder Wanyama requested to leave Southampton in the summer amid reported interest from Tottenham, who had a bid rejected by Saints on transfer deadline day.

Wanyama has since been reintegrated back into the team after Ronald Koeman refused to sell the powerhouse midfielder, and the Kenyan has rewarded his manager with fine recent performances.

When asked on how he now feels with regards to the summer saga, the 24-year-old responded: “I just don’t want to remember that situation. Yes, sure, now I’ve forgotten what happened. I’m now progressing on my club and it’s been good, so I’m looking forward to putting in good performances.”

Speaking to the Southern Daily Echo, Wanyama also discussed Southampton’s impressive victory away at Chelsea on Saturday, adding: “We expected a very very tough game and we showed what we can do. I think this is one of the best away wins. They’re a really really difficult team to beat, especially at Stamford Bridge, so we were very glad to have the maximum points.”
