Steven Gerrard called out Rio Ferdinand on BT Sport last night when the former Manchester United fan commented on the Champions League quarter-finals.
Ferdinand, who was in the BT Sport studio alongside Gary Lineker, Martin O’Neill and Gerrard claimed he wanted two English teams in the draw for the last eight.
Leicester made it through last night with a win over Sevilla but Man City have to negotiate a trip to Monaco this evening leading 5-3 from the first leg.
And Ferdinand, who played for United over 300 times and won the Premier League six times, the FA Cup three times and the Champions League once, claimed he would be in United’s rivals camp on Wednesday night.
Ferdinand said: “I’m going to Monaco tomorrow and I’d love to see two English clubs in the draw.”
But Gerrard interrupted and responded: “Are you sure as a United fan that you want City to go through?”
Ferdinand was taken aback and claimed: “I’m an England fan.”
Gerrard quipped: “I’m not sure he means that.” And amid fits of laughter when Lineker posed Gerrard a similar question and asked if he would be cheering Everton on in similar circumstances, he sarcastically replied: “Yeah, I’m sure I would!”
