Patrick Roberts: Scored a goal of real quality

England Under-20s got off to a winning start in the Four Nations Tournament after a 2-0 victory over their Dutch counterparts – with Patrick Roberts’ opener a goal of real quality.

Early goals from Roberts and Adam Armstrong were enough to give Paul Williams’ side the win at Oldham Athletic’s SportsDirect.com Park.

Roberts broke the deadlock after just six minutes, as a flowing 14-pass move saw the ball move through the Young Lions side before the Celtic loanee duly slotted past Joel Drommell.

Armstrong – on loan at Barnsley from Newcastle – doubled the advantage on the 13-minute mark to put the Young Lions well in control and the visitors were unable to get back into the game.

The tournament began on Wednesday afternoon as Germany beat the USA 1-0 at Leigh Sports Village. The two opening-day victors will meet at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield on Friday evening.
