Wayne Rooney jokes at Jurgen Klopp’s only mistake

Rooney Klopp TEAMtalk

Wayne Rooney has jokingly said that Jurgen Klopp’s only mistake is working for Liverpool.

The former Manchester United hero, who is now playing in MLS for DC United, says he has a lot of respect for the German coach despite him playing for United’s arch-rivals.

The 52-year-old Klopp left Borussia Dortmund in 2015 to take the top job at Anfield and the two sides will meet on Saturday in a pre-season friendly in Indiana.

“Jurgen is a manager every player would love playing for,” Rooney told German publication Sport Bild.

“You can see how much fun his players have playing under him. I met him once, he is an amazing guy.

“His only mistake is that he works for LFC and is successful there.

“I have much respect for Jurgen Klopp and for what he already has achieved. Not only in Liverpool, but also in Dortmund.

“This guy really has it. And he has his best years still upon him.”

Rooney, 33, has been enjoying a terrific season for DC with 12 goals in 22 appearances, including a recent strike from the halfway line.
