Sheffield Wednesday have joined the queue to sign the Liverpool prospect Rhian Brewster on loan to boost their promotion push.

Wednesday are said to be one of several Championship clubs to be ‘looking at’ the Liverpool prospect – among Leeds, Huddersfield and Preston North End.

The highly-rated teenager has struggled for game time at Anfield this season, with Liverpool looking at a loan elsewhere to develop the Englishman’s game.

The 19-year-old rose to fame at the 2017 U17s World Cup where England won the tournament and Brewster finished top goal scorer with eight goals – attracting attention from some of Europe’s biggest teams.

An injury hit 2018/19 season hindered Brewster’s form, who is now looking for first team action to help his development.

The addition would add strength to Garry Monk’s talisman Jordan Rhodes – whose hat-trick away at Forest at the weekend saw the Owls jump in to the playoff spots in a rampant 4-0 victory.

Wednesday’s back-up strikers, Sam Winnall and Fernando Forestieri, have only scored a goal each this season and the inclusion of Brewster could really add some finishing, quality and pace to the Wednesday front line.

First in the running to snatch the forward on loan is Swansea City, who are still missing attacking prowess following the summer departures of Daniel James and Oli McBurnie.

Swansea boss Steve Cooper has also worked with Brewster in the England-U17s setup, giving the south Wales side a real chance of getting the deal over the line.

Liverpool’s management are likely to let Brewster move to a club where he will have ample game time, ruling out some of the Premier League outfits showing interest.

The Reds have even imposed fines on clubs who do not give game time to their loaned players, either way Brewster would be a great recruit to any Championship team.
