Arsene Wenger says Danny Welbeck is very close to a first-team return, but Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla are still missing through injury.
Wenger is likely to keep the England man away from Sunday’s crucial clash with Leicester at The Emirates, but next weekend’s FA Cup date with Hull could be pencilled in for the 25-year-old, who has not played this season due to a knee problem.
“Fitness wise he is there, he just needs to get competition ready,” said Wenger.
Wenger delivered less positive news on Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, who have been sidelined with long-term leg and knee injuries respectively.
The Frenchman added: “I can’t count on Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla for at least three to four weeks.”
The Gunners ended a run of four consecutive games without victory by beating Bournemouth 2-0 last Sunday, and Wenger says he has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the clash with the league leaders.
“We have a similar squad to last week,” Wenger said. “There’s still 48 hours to go and two more training sessions, but hopefully we’ll keep the same team.”
