Wenger quotes over Manchester United job reported as fake

Quotes about the Manchester United job being a “dream” one originally attributed to former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger are fake, according to a broadcaster.

Wenger allegedly spoke to beIN Sports about United’s current situation and hinted that he has the credentials to take over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, should the Norwegian leave Old Trafford.

However, the broadcaster has now revealed that the Frenchman did not make the comments it was originally claimed he did.

Arsene hasn’t been a guest of beIN SPORTS in recent weeks so the quotes weren’t given to us. We last spoke to him at the start of the month and these comments weren’t from that interview,” a spokesman for the company said.

United face Wenger’s former club Arsenal on Monday evening in the Premier League at Old Trafford, with both clubs getting through to the fourth round of the EFL Cup earlier this week.

The Gunners eased past Nottingham Forest at the Emirates, while Solskjaer’s side were taken to penalties before they could see off League One Rochdale.
