West Ham will try to sign Jack Wilshere if the midfielder leaves Arsenal at the end of his current deal, according to reports.
The Gunners star can leave the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer when his deal at the club expires at the end of this month.
And the Daily Star claims that West Ham will head the chase for Wilshere should he choose to end his 10-year stay at Arsenal.
Wilshere came through the club’s youth ranks and made his debut for the Gunners back in 2008 but his playing time has been severely reduced in recent years.
He spent the season before last out on loan at Bournemouth and only started 12 Premier League matches last campaign.
Manuel Pellegrini, who recently took over as the new West Ham boss, is understood to be a long-term admirer of the England international.
And, with Wilshere’s contract situation still unresolved at Arsenal, Pellegrini will move for the midfielder if he becomes available.
Everton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Wolves and Fulham are all reported to be interested in Wilshere and West Ham will have to make a good offer to persuad Wilshere to join.
Wilshere recently rejected a new three-year deal as he was unhappy that his wage was based on the number of matches he plays in a season.
