West Ham bid £25million in attempt to pinch Arsenal target

West Ham have reportedly offered £25million (€27.6m) to try and sign Arsenal target William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon.

The Portugal international is said to have been one of Arsenal’s top targets this summer, while Italian champions Juventus have also been linked with the player.

Carvalho has long been talked about as capable of taking a step up to the next level, having already played 119 league games for Sporting, and has a huge €44million release clause in his contract.

Juve are reported to have already made contact with representatives of the 24-year-old but the player is said to favour a move to England, having long been touted to join Arsene Wenger at The Emirates.

However, it would appear that the Hammers are looking to steal a march on their rivals and land Carvalho for what would be a cut-price fee, according to the report in the Daily Mail.

West Ham have already added creativity to their ranks in the form of Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic and are now looking for a defensive midfielder to shield what, at times, has been a brittle backline.
