Manuel Pellegrini has responded to Yaya Toure’s agent and his belief that his client was too good for West Ham.
Dimitry Seluk claimed on Wednesday that Toure was having a medical in London, sparking rumours that he was set to join his old Manchester City boss at the London Stadium.
But Seluk responded by tweeting: It’s not West Ham, 100%. Yaya is a champion. The last place is not for him.’
Toure is expected to join Greek club Olympiakos, but Pellegrini has now suggested that the Ivorian did show an interest in signing for West Ham.
“Unfortunately they were the words of Yaya’s agent. I spoke to Yaya, I know him and appreciate him as a person,” he said.
“He is a very good player but in the moment when we were doing our squad list, that position was covered for other players.
“We need money to bring in players in other positions so we explained to Yaya clearly why he cannot come here. I hope he will find a good club, a big club because he is a very good player.”
Meanwhile, Seluk has since dropped further hints over Toure’s future, particularly the possibility of him joining Olympiakos.

Speculation suggests that Toure has undergone a medical in London ahead of a move to the Greek giants, and has obtained UK citizenship in order to then go to Greece under EU rules.
