West Ham ‘in contact’ with former Tottenham striker over potential move

Fernando Llorente Napoli TEAMtalk

West Ham are in contact with Napoli over a deal for former Tottenham and Swansea striker Fernando Llorente, according to a report.

Llorente left Tottenham last summer after seeing his contract expire, the Champions League final loss to Liverpool his final game for Spurs.

He joined Napoli on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal, and scored four goals in 17 appearances last season.

But he could now be on his way back to England this summer after West Ham made an initial approach for the veteran forward.

That is according to a report from Italian news outlet Il Mattino (via Sport Witness), who say the Spaniard is a target for David Moyes as he looks to bolster his squad.

The Hammers currently have Sebastien Haller and Michail Antonio to choose from for the striker position. The pair managed 17 league goals between the last term, however, Moyes is keen to bring in more competition.

And Llorente could be an ideal option for the Hammers, with the 35-year-old having previous Premier League experience. He played 69 games during his three-year stint in England, netting 17 goals.

He would also offer plenty of experience, which could prove to be a valuable asset for the East Londoners.

Napoli could be tempted into doing business

Although negotiations appear to be in the early stages, the report speculates that Napoli could be open to selling Llorente.

The Serie A side have been keen to sell players this summer to raise funds and, having signed Victor Osimhen and kept hold of Dries Mertens, are unlikely to be able to offer Llorente much playing time.

Therefore, receiving a fee for a back-up striker in the final year of his contract would be a good result.

The report also briefly mentions that Everton have shown an interest in Llorente. At this stage though, it is the Hammers who look most likely to make an official move.
