West Ham chasing Inter outcast available for minimal fee
West Ham have been linked with a summer swoop for Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino and will not have to pay too much for his signature.
Vecino, 29, has been at the San Siro since 2017. He was a regular in the side for the first couple of season but has not featured in 2020-2021.
The Uruguay international has reportedly been told he can leave in the off-season. And it is said that he will only cost around €8m for any interested suitors, according to Calciomercato (via Claret and Hugh).
That is significantly less that the €24m Inter paid Fiorentina to sign him four years’ ago. That would not be a problem for the Hammers but Chelsea have also been linked in the past.
The Blues were mentioned as possible suitors back in February 2020 and were said to be ready to fork out £24m for the schemer. It seems as though that figure may now not be necessary to get a deal done.
Inter chief Antonio Conte seems eager to move him on and so a cut-price transfer could be on the cards. It has been reported that the East End outfit tested the water in January and tabled a bid for the player.
Having played just one minute of Serie A football this term, a move away will clearly suit Vecino. He still holds international ambitions for the South American nation but needs to be playing regularly.
Vecino needs fresh challenge
For a player who once commanded such a large transfer fee, his lack of action this season will be disappointing. He began his career with Uruguayan side Central Espanol in 2010 before moving to Nacional in 2011.
David Moyes: We grew into the game too late
West Ham United boss David Moyes says he is disappointed with the result against Manchester United at Old Trafford and feels his side left it too late to grow into the game.
It was not long before Italy came calling and Fiorentina signed him in January 2013. But he struggled to see much game time early on and spent the second half of 2013-14 on loan with Cagliari.
He was then loaned to Empoli for the next campaign and made 36 league appearances. A couple of decent seasons with La Viola saw him snapped up by Inter.
But it seems as though his days are now numbered in Milan. The rumoured price tag will have many clubs interested.
Tottenham’s name has also been mentioned in connection with the man capped 41 times by Uruguay. He will have many options at the end of the season.
David Moyes has overseen a superb campaign for the Hammers this season and they will be an attractive proposition, with European football likely.
