West Ham are not the only club who could try to sign Jesse Lingard on a permanent basis from Manchester United, according to reports.
Lingard left Man Utd on loan in January after failing to feature at all in the Premier League in the first part of the season.
He has instantly got back to his best since joining West Ham on a temporary deal. Lingard scored a brace on his debut and currently has three goals from four games to his name.
His latest goal helped propel West Ham into the top four in the table. It seems the move could be beneficial for all parties.
Should Lingard’s impressive form continue, then West Ham may begin to think about a permanent signing.
There was no option to buy in his contract when they signed him on loan. However, they could try to tempt Man Utd into a sale.
According to Eurosport, though, West Ham are not the only side vying for Lingard’s signature.
The outlet claims that Leicester are also monitoring the situation, while there is a chance that Man Utd could reintegrate him once he returns to Old Trafford.
If Juan Mata leaves at the end of the season, it could free up a space in the Red Devils squad for Lingard. If the midfielder wants to leave for good, though, it seems he will have at least two options.
Leicester could be lining up a bid to rival West Ham’s. Both sides are fighting in similar territory in the Premier League this season, and as such, would have a similar level of appeal.
The 28-year-old is only under contract with Man Utd until 2022. Hence, they may have to sell him this summer to ensure they receive a transfer fee.
Lingard to leave in West Ham swap?
West Ham would surely be keen to keep Lingard if he maintains his current standards.
Declan Rice recently sang the praises of his new teammate, but one pundit thinks it may be a wise move if the pair swapped clubs.
Rice has long been linked with a move to Chelsea, but Man Utd also admire him.
With that in mind, United have been advised to use Lingard as bait in a bid for Rice.
