West Ham make their move to seal signing of Man Utd misfit

Jesse Lingard, Daniel James

West Ham have reportedly made their move to try and sign Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard this month.

David Moyes is keen to add to his squad after an impressive first half of the season from the Hammers.

And a loan swoop for Lingard could be on the cards, with the England man given the nod to leave Old Trafford.

Lingard has made just three appearances for the Red Devils this season. However, he previously played for Moyes when the Scot took charge at United backin 2013.

Premier League rivals Sheffield United and West Brom are also keen on the 28-year-old. But a loan switch for the Hammers could prove problematic.

The London club already have Said Benrahma and Craig Dawson on temporary deals, so would need to make one of those a permanent signing to land Lingard.

Midfield is not a position the Hammers are in desperate need of new recruits, with a new striker more pressing.

They recently allowed record signing Sebastien Haller to join Ajax and have been linked with a number of names since. The latest of those is RB Leipzig attacker Hee-Chan Hwang.

As for Lingard, he was left out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad again when they faced Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The player was said to keen on a move to Tottenham last summer, with those links recently resurfacing again.

The most recent reports, however, suggest that FC Porto could be ready to launch a €10m offer.

West Ham’s hopes of signing Youssel En-Nesyri suffered a further setback after his agent confirmed that the striker wants to stay at Sevilla.

Youssef En-Nesyri

The Hammers have been linked heavily with the frontman. David Moyes wants more options up front after Sebastien Haller was sold to Ajax.

Moroccan star En-Nesyri showed his class by scoring a hat-trick against Cadiz on Saturday. That was his second treble in the space of four games.

He’s scored 16 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions this season. And his efforts have helped put Sevilla in fourth place, just a point behind Barcelona.

En-Nesyri told reporters after the Cadiz game this weekend that he was happy to stay in La Liga. Read more…
