West Ham, Palace eye Juventus flop but familiar obstacle remains

Reports in Italy claim West Ham United and Crystal Palace have both tentatively tested the water regarding a summer swoop for Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The 30-year-old penned a four-year deal with the Old Lady after leaving Arsenal on a free transfer in 2019. He arrived in Turin to much fanfare but has failed to hit the expected heights. The Wales international has made 46 Serie A appearances across two seasons but enjoyed just 24 starts.

And he has finished the full 90 minutes on just three occasions for the Italian giants. That is not what was expected of the high-profile signing and his goal return has also been below par.

The former Cardiff City schemer has bagged just five in the league and six in all competitions. And that has come after he was a regular contributor to the Gunners goal column.

Injuries have not helped his stint at Juve. And, now on international duty at Euro 2020, Ramsey confessed that it has not been easy in Italy.

“It has been a quite challenging time over the past couple of seasons. There have been many factors and changes that I haven’t been used to,” he told reporters earlier this week.

“In the end now I have got my own team around me who are focused on me, to get myself in the best possible shape.”

Finances could prevent Ramsey departure

Ramsey reportedly earns €7m net per season after joining for nothing two years ago. A few clubs have been linked but his wages seem to be a sticking point.

Transfer Chatter - Liverpool identify Wijnaldum replacement, Arsenal to raid RB Leipzig and Gundogan stalling new contract

Jurgen Klopp has identified his perfect Georgino Wijnaldum replacement, Arsenal ready to raid RB Leipzig with a double swoop and Ilkay Gundogan is stalling on signing a new Manchester City contract, all in today's transfer chatter.

Back in May it was reported that Juventus were prepared to drop their asking price to just €10m. He has two years left on his present deal and that would be a bargain signing for any club willing to take a punt.

They are keen to get him off the wage bill and free up a space for another midfielder. Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Juve and Ramsey are at ‘loggerheads’ over his contract and injury woes.

The report adds that his salary is the ‘main obstacle’ for a summer exit. There is no question that the former Nottingham Forest loanee’s star has waned over the past few years.

But he now has a chance to shine for Wales in Euro 2020. It is said that he is open to a move in the off-season and the London duo have been mentioned as suitors.

However, the duo feel Ramsey’s salary ‘too high’, and they may wait to see if he will lower his demands before making a move.
