West Ham rivalling Tottenham for player ‘certain to move’ this summer

West Ham will face competition from Tottenham and Inter Milan to sign one of their top midfield targets this summer, according to reports.

The Hammers have signed three players so far during the transfer window, although they are yet to spend big. They made Craig Dawson’s loan from Watford permanent for just £2m, while winger Thierry Nevers joined on a free from Reading.

Alphonse Areola arrived from Paris Saint-Germain on loan in July. He is yet to make his debut at the London Stadium after being kept on the bench during the 4-2 victory over Newcastle United.

West Ham remain active in the market and are reportedly eyeing Cagliari star Nahitan Nandez.

That’s according to Italian source La Repubblica (via Sport Witness), who state that Nandez is ‘certain to move on’ this month.

His transfer will be a permanent sale or loan with the option to buy next year.

The also report provides an update on Inter’s pursuit of the 25-year-old.

Nandez is extremely keen to join the Serie A champions, although negotiations between the two clubs have stalled.

Another Italian outlet, Sport Mediaset, claim that the Uruguay international has ‘closed the door’ on Inter due to the transfer impasse.

He is supposedly looking to join a different club this month, which puts West Ham and Tottenham in the driving seat.

Spurs were first linked with him on Sunday amid their search for squad reinforcements.

They could bring Nandez to north London if Moussa Sissoko or Harry Winks are sold.

Nandez, capped 41 times at international level, tends to operate on the right side of midfield.

However, he can play centrally or in a more defensive role if needed.

West Ham star’s Lingard plea

West Ham have been heavily linked with Jesse Lingard this summer following his hugely impressive loan spell last term.

The England international managed nine goals in 16 matches and was vital to their European qualification.

However, Manchester United don’t seem keen to sell and have set his price tag at £30m, which is out of the Hammers’ reach.

But their players are keeping the ball rolling by teasing Lingard about a transfer on social media.

In an Instagram story, Republic of Ireland keeper Darren Randolph said on Monday: “Jesse Lingard, I’ll be seeing you soon at Rush Green for training! You know you want to!”
