West Ham not ruling out move, as Prem tussle for Liverpool star emerges

Georginio Wijnaldum, Marko Grujic

Southampton and West Ham have both shown initial interest in signing Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic on loan, according to a report.

Grujic’s future at Anfield is uncertain, with Liverpool reportedly expecting him to leave in one form or another by Monday.

Borussia Monchengladbach are keen to bring the 24-year-old back to the Bundesliga for a third season. According to the Daily Mail though, Grujic has now received interest from the Premier League.

Southampton and the Hammers have both registered initial interest in a season-long loan deal for the Serbian. However it is the Saints who currently lead the way.

Both clubs have also shortlisted Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a loan target but the Saints fear the Englishman’s wages will price them out of a deal.

As such, West Ham are pressing ahead in their efforts to move Loftus-Cheek across London.

That should free up Southampton to go for Grujic, although Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are yet to make a formal offer.

Grujic has spent the last two campaigns on loan at Hertha Berlin, where he became a first-team regular. In 54 appearances there, he chipped in with nine goals and three assists.

He has made two outings for Liverpool so far this season, both coming in the Carabao Cup. Indeed he was a dominant and impressive figure in midfield in both outings.

However the eight-time Serbia international is unlikely to receive game time in Liverpool’s strongest line-up. In fact, 18-year-old Curtis Jones has now moved ahead of him in the pecking order.

What’s more, Jurgen Klopp has the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara at his disposal.

Liverpool allow Brewster to leave

Meanwhile, young striker Rhian Brewster sealed a £23.5million move from Liverpool to Sheffield United on Friday.

The 20-year-old was facing a struggle for game time at Anfield, even before Diogo Jota’s recent arrival.

As such, Liverpool have allowed the England Under-21 international to move to South Yorkshire, where his top task will be adding goals to a side who have struggled to find the net this term.
