West Ham are keeping tabs on Sunderland midfielder Didier N’dong, who is being valued at around £20million, according to The Independent.

The Hammers are still searching for a midfielder in this transfer window after pulling out of the race to sign Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho – due to the £40million asking price.

N’dong has only been at the Stadium of Light for a season after signing from French side Lorient for a club-record fee of around £13.6million.

The 23-year-old has played every minute of Sunderland’s campaign so far and it’s believed that the Hammers have shown strong interest in him.

Black Cats boss, Simon Grayson understands the quality the Gabon international has and isn’t surprised that he is the club’s record signing.

“I knew a little bit about him but when you are working with players closely you see them in a different light,” said Grayson.

“He has unbelievable athleticism and work rate, and good quality on the ball too. “That is why he was a £13.6million player.

“He is still young and adapting to the British way of football, it is never easy when you are in a team that is finding it difficult in the Premier League but he looks like he is enjoying himself and is doing what I am asking him to do.” He added.
