West Ham to launch rival bid for Man Utd target in January

West Ham hold a serious interest in unsettled Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic and will rival Manchester United for his signature in January, according to Italian reports.
The experienced Croatian forward is yet to see a minute of action for the Serie A giants this season, with Gonzalo Higuain being preferred following his return from a loan at Chelsea.
Despite only signing a new contract at Juventus in April, Mandzukic is now expected to be on the lookout for pastures new, with a mega-money offer to play in Qatar being snubbed recently.
Mandzukic was heavily linked with Manchester United over the summer, with pundits criticising the club for not completing his signing following the exits of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, however, the Red Devils are set to make a fresh attempt for the 33-year-old in January, in recognition of their lack of depth in attack. Meanwhile, though, West Ham will pose a threat to their chances of signing him by launching their own offer.
The report claims that the London club have “already made their intentions clear” over a move for the striker, with the Premier League his most likely destination.
