West Ham boss Moyes will try and sign Man Utd pair in summer

West Ham will press ahead with trying to sign Manchester United duo Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard if they stay in the Premier League, claims a report.

Hammers boss David Moyes, who worked with the pair during his time at Old Trafford in 2013-14, wants the pair to join him in London.

The Independent reports that Moyes will be allowed to build his squad this summer if he staves off the threat of relegation

Jones is a player Moyes sees as one who could improve his Hammers team, but the former Blackburn man only signed a new four-year deal in February 2019.

However, his first-team chances have been few and far between of late with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer settling on Victor Lindelof alongside Harry Maguire at the back.

The 28-year-old has only made seven starts this season and may well fancy a move away to kickstart his career away from Manchester.

Lingard has also struggled to get game time and has one year left on his contract, although the club have a 12-month extension option on the 27-year-old’s deal.

And Solskjaer’s comments about the England man were far from reassuring.

‘Let’s see what the future holds’

“Hopefully he can kick on. He has scored vital goals for us, and has been a vital player for us,” said the United boss last month.

“Let’s see what the future will hold. At the moment he is looking really sharp and focused.”

Solskjaer is expected to have a clear-out this summer, with both Jones and Lingard, who is interesting West Brom and Everton, are expected to be sold.

According to the Sunday Express, United have been looking at ways to finance their move for Jadon Sancho and have earmarked the sales of the duo, as well as Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Alexis Sanchez.
