Where Liverpool, City clash will be won; Man Utd duo told to retire

One Liverpool fan names where Sunday’s clash with Manchester City will be won and Manchester United fans tell two players to retire after their performances against Partizan – all in Your Says of the Day.

Enjoyed the first half play and the goals, second half pretty s****. Shocking how pathetic both Young and Mata are 100% of the time, no matter how bad the opponent. They should both just hold their hands up, admit they’re totally finished and f*** off to China or the State’s, or better still just retire.
Even though Lingard and Pereira came on late they both still managed to have enough time to stink it out again, they are both plain useless.

Can’t see it being so easy against Brighton on Sunday, an early goal would help big time.

Agree the attack after attack at the end of the first half was a nice reminder of years gone by but the second half was dull as f*** after they scored the third. Lack of cutting edge and tempo. Typical Utd half these days. Players need to fucking wake up. I’m not Martials biggest fan but the amount of off the shoulder runs he made and wasn’t found just highlights the total lack of cutting edge from midfield

Some good movement and forward passing in the first half and, in the end, a comfortable win. Three good goals and it could of been double or even triple that with better finishing against a very poor Partizan side. Having said that, we’ve failed to beat plenty of poor teams of late so it was good to see us attacking our opponents for once. People keep say the Euro League is our BEST chance of CL football – I think it’s our ONLY chance and not even a very probable one as there are several teams better than us in this competition.

Good performance, and potentially a blueprint for how we might play against teams that come to Old Trafford to defend. Brighton will offer more on the counter attack this weekend though, so we’ll need to take our chances.

Martial leading the line at home makes a big difference, and although this should be Mata’s last season, at least he got us passing forward in the first half.

Does anyone else think McTominay is clearly our best player now?

Always a difficult game v Palace it’s their Cup Final.

Reece James coming in would make sense this lad has huge huge potential I can see Azpi moving to left back if he does.

If Mount isn’t fit I think Hudson Odoi will come in and Pulisic will move back into midfield to replace him.

Kante likely to start in place of Jorginho. Other than that it will imo be an unchanged team.

I think Emerson will start on the left. It will be a tough match, Palace are a team well-organized defensively. And there’s Gary Cahill’s factor. He knows well our team, our ex-captain. No news from Chelsea about Mount but I think he has a chance to feature as he just was called to England national team. Gareth Southgate would’t call an injured player. But anyway I reckon he needs a rest too. So whether he plays or not, there are players who would happily step in. I think we should not over use Pulisic too. I choose 3-4-3 as 3 CB would be safer against a counter-attacking team like Palace who have Zaha, Ayew, ex ours van Aanholt: all speedy players.

My team (3-4-3): Kepa – Azpi,Tomori,Zouma – James,Kanté,Kovacic,Emerson – CHO,Abraham,Willian

This would be my team for Saturday: Kepa; James, Zouma, Tomori, Emerson; Kovacic, Kante, Mount; Hudson-Odoi, Abraham, Pulisic. Not to say the others should be dropped but Lampard needs to rotate and keep the players fresh, if Mount as expected is still injured then Willian comes in. Pity RLC is still out, his going to be a major force in the team if he can stay fit. He is a bit injury prone.

One thing I have noticed with City this season and it happened again recently in the Soton game is the space they allow in their defensive third and this is where we can hurt them.

They don’t have the discipline we have when not in possession in the opponent’s half and I believe we can get at them there if we are pro-active in midfield with the ball. P*** about like we’ve done in recent games especially in the first half and City could hurt us.

I’ll say it once more as I always say when playing City we simply have to keep tight to Aguero. He’s the one that usually does the damage against us. Yes, they have injuries but we arse about like we have been doing and they will sucker punch us.

I’ll be extremely surprised if Leicester dont finish top 6 nevermind top 4.
They have a very good young team mixed with a coupla experienced heads who have won the Prem and have a decent manager who has challenged for the Prem and is a serial winner in Scotland.
They do not have European distractions so when they finish their game on a Sat they have all week to focus on whoever they play the following weekend. Don’t underestimate having that time to prepare most weeks.

That being said City are our main rivals. The game against Leicester away on Boxing Day will not be easy though.

Those are fair points, but I think the table flatters them a bit.

For me, Spurs, Chelsea, Utd and Arsenal are better.

Leicester have played top-half teams just 4 times so far (who finished in the top half last season), and took just 4 points from a possible 12.
Their other 7 games were vs bottom-half or newly promoted teams, 2 of which were against 10 men with early red cards in the first half.

They’ve got a tough game, at home, against Arsenal this weekend. They need to start getting results in these sorts of games to be a contender for the top 6.

I struggle to see how Utd or Arsenal are better than them.
Utd would love to have a striker like Vardy or midfielders like Teilemans or Maddison. Leicester sold them Maguire and they’re still doing very well in defence, better than Utd.

Arsenal might have a good forward line but I can’t say much for their midfield and particularly their defence.

Leicester are well rounded in keeper, defence, midfield and up front.

We’ll know better when we get into the latter stages of the season.

Utd are certainly struggling right now, and if Leicester oust anyone it will probably be them. But let’s not forget that Leicester played against Utd a few weeks ago and lost.

[Daniel] James is the first (and only) young player which we spotted ahead of the rest of the big clubs – but in reality we have missed the boat on way too many youngsters and are deservedly lacking in youthful talent compared to other big clubs.

As an example, looking at Rodrygo yesterday for Real Madrid, how is it that our scouts didn’t even have a look in to the player before he made a move? How did our scouts also not think that Arthur was worth it when both Barcelona and ourselves were chasing? How did Borussia Dortmund get a free ride with Brandt and Alcacer on the cheap this summer when we are desperate for such players in our squad?

I agree with the process of signing top 17 and 18 year olds for cheap but we should also be signing players like Brandt, Havertz and James for low prices and giving them a platform to grow and succeed at our club (or sell for a massive profit in future).

We could do a lot worse than jump in for Odsonne Edouard from Celtic in January. Begs the question why Celtic seem to sign young gems but we can’t fucking find any.

@jm1502 – quite simple mate: their scouts are good whilst ours are trash.

Sympathy for the Devils

On a side note, according to a TT article this morning, 23 year old Timo Werner has a clause that could make him available for just 30m in January.

I mean seriously, if this isn’t an excellent “gamble” for a club like United to take then I don’t know what is: young, great finisher – exactly what United need – playing for a “smaller” club and may see United as a good step up.

if he does go for cheap in January and we don’t make an effort to sign him then it’s a clear sign that whoever is leading the Transfer Front is not good enough and needs to be replaced.

Sympathy for the Devils

Although I’m of course a bit frustrated by the fixture congestion, I can’t help at being a little excited about what two teams we will see.

Given that we want to win both, here would be my two XI with the aim to keep them equally good. Both 433.

Team 1.
Lewis Matip Lovren Robertson
Henderson Fabinho Keita
Shaq Salah origi

Team 2.
TAA Gomez Van Dijk Milner
wijnaldum Lallana Ox
Elliott Firmino Mane

Two pretty good teams!
What are your thoughts?

Our strongest squad goes to the world championships. It’s a trophy and we have a huge chance of winning. I badly want to win it

Villa we play the youngsters. Be interesting to see what we do. Whether he keeps some expirenced players back for the villa game like milner, lalanna etc but it be just all kids for me

I’d be extremely surprised if any senior players didn’t travel to Doha.
The squad must be there 3 day’s in advance and there can be no additions to the squad. This rules out the possibility of a player playing the league cup game and then flying out.
The World Club Cup holds more prestige to win and much more prize money than the tin pot league cup.

I think you’re right that we wont leave our cl winners behind for the world club cup. Still though, I think the two teams above are quite strong!

It’s absolutely pathetic to have to deal with this, its robbing the youngsters of going to Qatar as they have to be there three days prior to the game. No exceptions even though they could join up for training but then again is that worth it with all the travelling and disruption to training that follows.
