Stephen Warnock: To join Wigan on permanent deal

Wigan Athletic have agreed a deal to sign loan star Stephen Warnock on a permanent basis this summer, sources have told www.teamtalk.com.

Warnock ended this season on loan at Wigan from Derby County after joining the club on an emergency loan deal in March.

The former Liverpool and Leeds full-back made 11 appearances for Wigan after his arrival to help the club win the League One title and secure promotion back to the Championship.

Wigan boss Gary Caldwell is a big fan of Warnock and sees the former England defender’s experience as a vital addition to his plans in the Championship next season.

Warnock’s contract at Derby expires next month and with the player not being offered a new deal at the iPro Stadium, Wigan have moved quickly to offer the defender a contract to stay at the DW Stadium.
