Jake Buxton: Joins Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic have unveiled defender Jake Buxton as their latest new signing as they prepare for life back in the Championship

Buxton found himself down the pecking order at the iPro Stadium last season, making just three appearances in the Championship, all as a substitute.

New Derby boss Nigel Pearson is prepared to let Buxton move on with the club understood to be in the market for a new central defender this summer.

Buxton has established himself as a key man in the Derby side, making over 150 appearances for the Rams since joining the club from Burton Albion in the summer of 2009.

Championship new boys Wigan are keen to bolster their defensive ranks before the start of the new season after some indifferent results in pre-season and Latics boss Gary Caldwell sees Buxton’s experience as a vital addition to his squad.
