Liverpool star tips ‘perfect signing’ Thiago to take Klopp’s men to next level

Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum believes that Thiago is the perfect signing for the club after his move to Anfield from Bayern Munich.

Holland international Wijnaldum admits he’s been very impressed by Thiago since his arrival on Merseyside last month.

The Spain international, who has been forced to self-isolate after testing positive for coronavirus, cost the Reds just £20million.

And Wijnaldum has highlighted Thiago’s confidence on the ball as one of his best assets. He also added that his ability to beat the press and be progressive in his play is also impressive.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Wijnaldum said of Thiago’s signing: “Everything impressed me.

“I saw him play for years now, I played against him when we played against Bayern. His awareness on the pitch, the confidence he has on the ball and the way he manages to let the team play is unbelievable.

“He’s such a quality player that is going to make this team even better than we were before. So, I’m really happy, everyone is really happy, to have him here. He’s also happy to be here.

“I think it’s a perfect match: Liverpool and Thiago.”

The irony of Thiago’s arrival is that he places a direct threat to Wijnaldum’s spot in the team.

The Dutchman was linked with a switch to Barcelona over the summer, but he admitted that the interest was not that concrete.

Thiago will be available again when the Reds return to Premier League action on October 17. Then they will face the small matter of a Merseyside derby against current table-toppers Everton.

Adrian’s career at Liverpool may well be over, according to Reds team-mate Marko Grujic.

The goalkeeper had a night to forget on Sunday at Villa Park as Villa hammered seven past him.

And while Adrian was not at fault for all the goals, he did make a huge mistake for the opener. He misplaced a pass which allowed Ollie Watkins to open the scoring.

He was hesitant at best after that after stepping in for the injured Alisson and went on to concede six more in a performance which Andy Robertson described as “embarrassing”.

And now midfielder Grujic, who made a loan move to Porto on deadline day, claimed on social media that Adrian’s time at Anfield may well be up. Read more…
