William Gallas reveals which crucial transfer can ‘win the league’ for former club

William Gallas has revealed that he believes his former club Chelsea can be crowned Premier League champions next season if they sign a star striker.

Despite their recent Champions League heroics against Manchester City, not a single Blues player was able to cement themselves as a goalscoring asset for Thomas Tuchel‘ side last season. Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner could all have done better in their efforts to successfully lead the line at Stamford Bridge.

Italian midfielder Jorginho finished the season as the club’s top-scoring player in the Premier League with seven goals, all coming from the penalty spot.

This statistic reinforces Gallas’ view that a new striker could be pivotal in the West London club’s league campaign next season.

Speaking to The Sun, the Frenchman spoke about how a free-scoring number nine could be the key to Chelsea re-capturing the Premier League title.

He said: “Chelsea have the best chance of winning the Premier League next season because of how they played in the Champions League, every team will be afraid.

“If Chelsea buy a world-class striker, they will win it. From those three, Chelsea have the best chance.”

One player reportedly being monitored by Thomas Tuchel is Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who has recently expressed his desire to leave the club.

Thomas Tuchel handed a huge £200m budget for the transfer window, Barcelona and Manchester United locked in race for highly-rated centre-half and the frontrunner for the Crystal Palace job emerges, all in today's transfer chatter.

Gallas believes that the 27-year-old is at the right stage of his career to leave North London and challenge for the top trophies.

“Harry is a world-class striker and top world-class strikers have to play in the Champions League – I know he wants to play in that competition and win trophies. When you have the talent like him you have to win trophies. For me, he has to leave.”

Other players on Tuchel’s radar

In addition to securing a Champions League trophy in his first season in charge, Tuchel was also able to guide Chelsea to a fourth placed finish, four places higher than when he took over from Frank Lampard.

He is believed to be looking at a number of key signings to ensure the Blues are title challengers next season.

Should Chelsea follow Gallas’ advice and swoop in for a striker this summer, a likely transfer could be the return of Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge.

Another player that is high up on Tuchel’s priority list is Bayern Munich centre-back, Niklas Sule.

Despite successful seasons from Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva it is understood that the German manager is keen on bringing the Germany international to West London.
