Wolves agree deal with Spanish giant for striker switch worth up to €25m

Wolves are on the verge of selling a striker to Atletico Madrid in a deal which could rise to €25m (£21m), according to a report.

The West Midlands outfit have sold one squad member during the summer transfer window, with shot-stopper Rui Patricio joining Roma for around £10m. Wolves decided to bring in Portuguese keeper Jose Sa as his replacement.

It seems Wolves are keen to boost their transfer funds with another sale as forgotten striker Rafa Mir is close to joining Atletico.

According to Spanish outlet COPE (via One Football), Wolves have agreed to sell the 24-year-old for an initial €15m.

The deal could rise to €25m in the near future if certain variables are met, such as appearances and goals.

Mir recently represented Spain at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He scored a hat-trick against Ivory Coast on their way to the gold medal match.

However, the 2010 World Cup winners were beaten by Brazil in the final and picked up the silver medal as a result.

The report claims that Mir hasn’t even returned to England as he looks to push through a move to La Liga.

The transfer is supposedly ‘imminent’ and he could feature in Atleti’s league opener at Celta Vigo this weekend.

Atleti boss Diego Simeone has been searching for a new striker to compete with Luis Suarez.

Mir caught his attention during an 18-month loan spell at Huesca. He managed 25 goals in 57 appearances for the club. Despite his good form, Huesca were relegated last season after picking up just 34 points from 38 matches.

Mir is thought to be keen on the transfer as it will challenge him at a higher level. He has barely been given an opportunity for Wolves during three years on their books.

Manager Bruno Lage has been handed a boost up front thanks to the return of talisman Raul Jimenez.

The Mexico star, 30, is fit again after suffering a fractured skull against Arsenal in November last year. He will be looking to get into form quickly so Wolves can move back into the top ten.

Wolves interested in former West Brom loanee

The sale of Mir might give Wolves a hand as they look to bring in Okay Yokuslu from Celta Vigo.

The defensive midfielder looked comfortable competing in the top flight during 16 appearances last term. He was arguably one of the better players in a West Brom team which was relegated on 26 points.

However, Wolves will have to beat newly-promoted Watford to the signing.
