Wolves emerge as shock contenders for €65m Man Utd, Arsenal target
Wolves are hopeful that they can persuade Ruben Dias to snub Manchester United and join them instead, claims a report.
Dias is one of the most highly-rated young centre-backs in the world, and has been frequently linked to United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to improve his defence.
Real Madrid and Arsenal are also on the 22-year-old’s trail, but now the Express and Star suggest that Wolves have joined the race.
The Molineux club have strong links with Dias’ agent Jorge Mendes, who has helped them secure a number of exciting names over the past couple of years, and that trend could continue with the addition of Dias – who featured for Portugal in their UEFA Nations League triumph this summer.
The report claims that initial contacts have been made with Benfica, and suggests why Wolves could have the upper hand over other suitors.
They believe they have the best offer of regular first team football for the Portuguese international, who could be tempted to team up with his compatriots such as Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.
However, the defender’s near-£57m release clause could be problematic for Wolves. If they did manage to find a way to bring Dias in, then it would be a massive statement of intent from a side looking to consolidate themselves as challengers for the European places in the Premier League.
