Wolves in for cut-price French frontman amid Jimenez absence

Wolves are considering a move for Montpellier’s Gaëtan Laborde in the January transfer window as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Wolves have been without their star striker Raul Jimenez since November after he suffered a fractured skull against Arsenal.

He has missed seven games since and is still some way from making a return. Although, there has been some good news on that front with the Mexican starting early fitness work this week.

With Fabio Silva, Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto filling in up top, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have managed seven goals in the matches without their talisman.

That record has brought them just one win and two draws, and they could now look to recruit cover.

And according to Eurosport FR (via GFFN) Laborde is a potential option for them. The 26-year-old has hit six goals in 18 appearances this season, including two in his last three games.

He is also able to play on either flank and that versatility could be appealing to Wolves bosses. Laborde’s hardworking, tenacious style, meanwhile, would fit in well at Molineux.

As well as Wolves, it has been claimed that West Ham and two unnamed Bundesliga clubs are weighing up bids for Laborde.

Bargain deal to be had

What’s more, with Montpellier looking to raise funds a deal could be straightforward to complete.

French football is currently without a broadcasting partner and that has left the Ligue 1 club struggling financially, meaning they would likely welcome the funds received for Laborde.

That opens the door for offers for the forward and should make the process of sealing the transfer slightly easier.

Previous reports have stated that he would cost around £4.5million, making him a low risk option if Wolves decide to press ahead.

In other news, Wolves have recalled Patrick Cutrone from his loan spell at Italian Serie A side Fiorentina.
