Wolves seeking ambitious Real Madrid raid as interest in Liverpool star cools

Wolves have taken the first step to pulling off a superb coup by launching a ‘loan enquiry’ for a Real Madrid forward after their interest in a Liverpool striker reportedly waned.

Wolves suffered a huge blow when talismanic centre-forward Raul Jimenez suffered a fractured skull in late November.

The Mexican was thankfully seen in good spirits in the stands during his side’s clash with Tottenham. However, given the seriousness of his injury, no timescale has been put on his return.

That leaves just Portuguese youngster Fabio Silva as their only recognised striker. As a result, goals in December have proved difficult to come by.

One potential option for the January window had been Liverpool’s out of favour frontman Divock Origi.

The Belgian has had to settle for a minor role in the current campaign, leading to speculation his exit could be just around the corner.

Wolves appeared set to act on their interest, but the latest report from The Athletic reveals this interest has now cooled.

Instead, attentions will turn to £55m Real Madrid forward, Luka Jovic.

The Serbian has struggled to replicate the form that brought about his move to the Spanish giant in 2019. As a result, a switch to the Premier League had been hypothesised.

Now, The Athletic note that Wolves have taken the first step by launching a ‘loan enquiry’.

Real Madrid are stated to prefer a permanent transfer, but Wolves’ interest likely stops at the loan route.

One compromise could come in the form of a temporary switch with a view to a permanent deal down the line.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s firm belief about Adama Traore will act as a ‘catalyst’ for Liverpool to make a move for the Wolves winger, according to a report.

Traore exploded into life in the 2018/19 season for Wolves with the help of his brute strength and pace.

Last term, meanwhile, he continued to have an immense impact. Indeed, he scored three goals against Manchester City to help depose the Premier League champions from their perch.

However, the 24-year-old has failed to maintain his consistency in the team amid speculation about his future.

Previous reports have linked Liverpool with a move and Don Balon‘s latest report claims that Reds boss Klopp still has a firm interest in the Spain international.
