Wolves star Traore offers 19-word response to Barcelona speculation

Adama Traore

Adama Traore refused to entertain links with a return to Barcelona when asked about his future while on international duty.

The Wolves star has established himself as one of the best wide men in the Premier League over the past couple of seasons.

His resurgence after less successful spells with Aston Villa and Middlesbrough has led to speculation he could move to a more traditional big club.

Traore was linked with Liverpool in the summer transfer window, but they acquired a different Wolves player instead in Diogo Jota.

Since then, there has been talk of a potential return to Barcelona for Traore, who spent nine years in their academy before making 63 appearances for their B team and four for their first team.

However, the 24-year-old has played down talk of a future at Barcelona while on international duty with Spain, for whom he made his senior debut against Portugal.

“It’s not my decision whether I would suit Barcelona,” he said. “My mentality is to work every day to be better.”

Wolves are reportedly keen on tying Traore down to a longer-term contract, despite his current deal still lasting until 2023.

Traore’s Spain debut earned praise from national boss Luis Enrique, who previously managed him at Barcelona.

And the Wolves winger gave insight into how Enrique has helped him settle in to the Spain camp.

“He asked me to do my best, to do my bit to win matches,” he said.

“I can only thank him for his trust, [and that of] his staff, the doctors. For his insistence that I come.”

Traore in talks with Fati

Despite his dismissal of links with Barcelona, Traore is still keeping an eye on his former club’s progress. He also admitted he has been in regular contact with their rising star Ansu Fati.

The pair have joined up together with Spain, and having both come through the Barca academy – albeit in different age groups – Traore says they have spoken about life at Camp Nou.

“We talk about everything,” he said. “Even some more general topics because I have been at the club for many years and so has he.

“We met in the academy and have spoken about things to do with the team, the things that we happened together at Barcelona. We know each other well.”
