Wolves strengthen attacking options as Benfica star lands on loan

Wolves have begun strengthening their squad ahead of a return to the Premier League by signing Benfica forward Raul Jimenez.

The 27-year-old Mexico international will move to Molineux on a season-long loan subject to him obtaining a work permit and international clearance, the club confirmed.

Jimenez, who has scored 14 goals in 62 international appearances, is part of Mexico’s World Cup squad in Russia.

He scored 31 times in 120 appearances for Benfica, averaging a goal or assist every 75 minutes in last season’s Primeira Liga-winning campaign.

Jimenez previously played for boyhood side Club America before moving to Atletico Madrid for the 2014-15 season.

The arrival of Jimenez will offset the loss of Benik Afobe, who has joined Stoke on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
