Wolves transfer news: Brentford closing in on Molineux star after breakthrough in talks

Nathan Collins Wolves

Brentford are reportedly closing in on the signing of Wolves defender Nathan Collins after a breakthrough in talks over a deal.

The London club are known to have already had a number of offers rejected for the 22-year-old centre-back this summer, but the two clubs are inching closer to an agreement.

Football Insider reports that Thomas Frank’s men are confident of finalising the deal with their Premier League rivals this week as they look to make Collins their third signing of the summer.

The FI report adds that Wolves have reluctantly agreed to sell Collins just a year after his arrival from Burnley as they look to bolster their finances due to Financial Fair Play fears.

Collins was a regular for Wolves in the first half of last season but lost his place at the turn of the year following the arrival of Craig Dawson from West Ham.

He made 31 appearances across all competitions as they managed to stave off relegation under former Spain boss Julen Lopetegui.

Collins cost a reported £20.5million last summer, a deal which made him the most expensive Irish player of all time.

At the time of signing he penned a contract until June 2027, earning a reported wage of £20,000-a-week which he is almost certain to improve in London.

If he does complete his move to Brentford, Collins will become their third summer signing after Kevin Schade and Mark Flekken.

As for Wolves, they’ve already parted company with skipper Ruben Neves, who has joined Saudi outfit Al-Hilal in a deal worth a reported £47million.
