Woodward puts striker he rates more than Haaland top of Man Utd wish-list

Manchester United will go all out next summer to bring Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez to Old Trafford, according to a report.

United addressed their desire for attacking additions in the recent transfer window by signing Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan veteran will add goals to an exciting front line that began to blossom late last season.

However the 33-year-old’s deal ends next year and it is unclear whether United plan to trigger his one-year extension.

According to Don Balon, Cavani’s signing was only a stopgap for this season, amid the club’s ‘medium-term’ plan.

Indeed next summer United will reportedly make Martinez’s signing a priority in a bid to bolster their attack.

The 23-year-old finished last season with 21 goals and seven assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.

What’s more, he has started this campaign in similar fashion, with three goals in four Serie A outings.

As such, Woodward – along with United‘s scouting network – reportedly believe the forward has more potential than Erling Haaland.

The Red Devils missed out on the Norwegian sensation last January and he has shown sensational form since for Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, Inter appreciate the growing value of their striker, Don Balon adds. As such, they have decided to ‘study’ the offers that come in for Martinez next summer.

As for his price, the report adds that he is currently worth €70million (£63million). But if he continues his good form that price will end up ‘shooting up’.
