Manchester United recently rejected an exclusive chance to sign Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic for £27million, according to a report.
United have spent the vast majority of the transfer window chasing a new wide attacker. Jadon Sancho is their top target but Borussia Dortmund are standing firm on his £108million price tag.
The Red Devils feel that fee is unrealistic in the current financial climate and the deal looks to have stalled.
Further speculation has linked United with a host of other stars, including Douglas Costa and Ousmane Dembele.
Stretty News now claims that that list of players has grown, with the addition of Serbia international Kostic.
Frankfurt reportedly offered the left-sided attacker to Old Trafford in an exclusive deal earlier in the transfer window.
However United chiefs bluntly rejected the offer with a “straight ‘no'”, the source adds.
Kostic began his career in his native Serbia but his stock has risen since his move to Germany. He joined Frankfurt on loan in 2018, making his move from Hamburg permanent a year later for £5.4million.
In his first season he scored 10 goals and assisted 13 others in 46 appearances across all competitions.
He followed that up last term with 12 goals, laying on a further 18 for his teammates.
Kostic is also a senior Serbia international, having earned 34 caps for his country. He made his first appearance in 2015.
United showed attacking promise after the lockdown, with Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial in inspired form.
Indeed, Martial hit 20 goals for the first time in his career, while Greenwood did so in his debut season.
However Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stressed that great United teams of the past have always featured several stars fighting for one position.
Solskjaer slams ‘disrespectful’ reporter for questioning Van de Beek deal
Meanwhile, Solskjaer has branded it “disrespectful” to point out that Donny van de Beek is United’s only recent signing.
The Red Devils are under pressure to bring in more additions, with Solskjaer insisting that he will offer updates when he can.
Pressed on whether he sees it as an issue that United have only brought in one player though, the Norwegian boss took issue.
