Yeo must be joking
Stop teasing, we can’t make the play-offs…can we?
OK so here is a word I will not say in a Yeovil Town blog again this season – Play-offs.
Now, there we go… we currently stand just seven points off the magical sixth place, in the interest of fair play, that’s one less point than we are away from the relegation zone.
Right I’ve said it… it’s doable. Get in!
Ok, that’s out of my system, lets talk properly now. A couple of blogs ago I said this…
“I’ll stick my head out and say we will not lose again until Charlton… prove me right lads!”
Considering we had Bristol Rovers, Southend, Leeds and Charlton, to say we would get results out of three would be a tough task…
Well, Leeds beat us comfortably, but we made up for it with a fantastic point against Charlton, the other two games ended in three points for the Glovers, so seven points later we sit either side of halfway up the table.
Mid table mediocrity, a beautiful thing!
I sit here a proud Yeovil Town fan, just one league defeat in nine (we wont mention the Oxford game) and during that run of nine, we’ve had the top two, and a number of other ‘promotion contenders’… and Brentford!
The best bit
I was asked by a friend what the best bit of this run is? It took me a while to answer.
The nominations were:
-Dean Bowditch’s return/winning goal vs Southend.
-A Point against high flying Charlton
-The Brentford win that got this ball rolling
-The first half performance against Leeds
-The derby win against Bristol Rovers
…and the winner is…
Dean Bowditch. The most natural goalscorer at the club, returns ahead of schedule from an awful shoulder injury to score (ironically with the damaged shoulder) against the moaning Sarfenders.
Now we have to protect him, give him some brief appearances from the bench, get him match fit before sitting back and watching the goals flow.
Skiverton resisted the chance to throw him in from the start against Charlton, brave move… but the right one.
Next up…
These are good times, radio presenters and fans are talking about potentially getting into the play…. hang on… not going to mention that was I?
We look forward to some fixtures we could consider ‘easy’ in comparison.
Gillingham, a team which our reserves beat at the end of the 2007 season, Craig Alcock on debut was brilliant.
Walsall, have they ever finished anything other than 12th?
MK Dons, haven’t had the best of times recently, and could easily consider a visit from Yeovil a nasty one.
Norwich, beat us 4-0 last time out… Grant Holt is too good for this league… but I said something similar about Charlton.
The way I’m feeling at the moment is odd, but in a really good way, I haven’t felt this way since 2006/07 season, which of course was the one that saw us reach the play…. close one, nearly said it again!
OK, so I’m excited, very, I’m still not expecting miracles, people can mention the P-word if they like, but I’m just happy to see 50 points come and go, that’ll keep us up… then who knows…
